Welcome to School!

…and a new session.

It’s another year closer to your dream of becoming a professional nurse, and we’re here to help you get off to a great start—especially as you transition to the medical campus.

You’ve just returned from a long (short, because you are a nursing student) break, and you’re probably ready to take on the semester with fresh energy and new strategies. We’re excited for you, and the tips we’ve gathered below are designed to help you channel that energy toward the right goals this session:

1. Get Organized Early

A new level doesn’t always mean harder courses, but it does bring more responsibility in nursing. You’re expected to know more about clinical practice, and honest ignorance will often be met with surprise or encouragement to step up. With a packed schedule ahead, organization is key. Track your lectures, assignments, clinical days, and study time. Balancing classes, clinicals, and personal time is manageable when you prioritize tasks, set realistic goals, and plan downtime to recharge. You might not know exactly what your typical day will look like just yet, but planning ahead ensures you’re always prepared.

2. Embrace Your Clinicals

From now on, you’ll be spending  more time in clinical settings. Get ready to apply your theoretical knowledge in real-world practice. Always go in prepared—review your cases beforehand, and don’t be afraid to ask questions if something isn’t clear. Your clinical rotations are the perfect place to grow your skills and confidence, so make the most of every experience.

3. Learn What Works for You—Fast

Apart from being a nursing student, you also attend OOU, a university known for its fast-paced academic calendar. You do not want to be caught flailing and struggling a few weeks to your exams. The best time to realise what study method works best for you is now, try it all, but do it fast. Your classmates are a valuable resource and study groups can help you reinforce your understanding and cover more material. Discussing concepts with others will not only deepen your knowledge but also build a support network for the tougher days. Nocturnal reading is fun but don’t try it if you struggle to stay awake. Make the most of your days and you’ll be thankful you did. Past questions might be your own go-to for studying, but at the end of the day, make sure it is what works best for you.

Don’t despair, you’ve come this far, that means you got what it takes for you to finish. Rooting for you!!

4. Take Care of Yourself

Nursing school is demanding, but your health should always come first. Regular exercise, sleep, and healthy meals will keep both your body and mind in top form. When things get tough, don’t hesitate to seek support—whether from a counselor, a mentor, a friend, or a senior student. In addition, participate in extracurricular activities to make the most of your university experience. OOU offers various groups like the NUNSAOOULADS for the literary-minded, OOU Nursing Journal for the writers, sports teams for athletes, and even groups for political aspirants. Joining these clubs not only helps you stay balanced but also allows you to connect with your peers and enjoy the fullness of campus life.

5. Stay Focused on Your “Why”

The journey will feel overwhelming at times, but always remember why you started. Modify it if it sounds fickle now but make sure you stay true to yourself. Keep your goals in sight and celebrate even the smallest victories.

Look at you!!! In another level in the nursing department, so proud of you!!

Each step, no matter how challenging, brings you closer to the nurse you aspire to become.

We’re eager to see all that you’ll accomplish this session. Best of luck, and here’s to a successful semester!
